My Top 5 Favorite Self-Help Books
To say my divorce was a wakeup call would be an understatement. The mess, that was my life was all the proof I needed. Clearly something had to change. So I went in search of answers to questions I didn’t even realize needed to be asked. These are my top 5 Self-Help Books that I credit with helping me to make some serious breakthroughs in improving my life.
1. The Power of Letting Go
The Power of Letting Go marked a real turning point in my life. I was in a lot of pain and desperately searching for answers to help me make sense out of all the chaos. This book was the first real breakthrough that helped put things into perspective. After utilizing some of the teachings and techniques learned in this book, I was able to grasp certain concepts that helped to manage the pain. This book opened the door for me to the realm of spirituality and started me on my journey toward inner work and self healing.
2. The Power of Now
I credit this book with having the biggest impact on changing my perception of life and reality. Something clicked after reading it. I had that, Aha! moment where things started to make sense. It felt as though I finally had something to explain things I had been feeling and experiencing. I have read this book and listened to the audio version several times. Each time I’ve had a different key take away.
3. Mind Hacking Happiness Volume I
After going down a deep rabbit hole in the topic of spirituality, I found the contents of this book to be refreshing. While I still believe this book to be spiritual in nature; Sean Webb’s focus is on providing insight into the inner workings of the mind and body. The core belief being, to understand how the mind and body work, puts you in more control of your own life. I found the contents of this book truly eye opening. There is more than one book in the series, but this is [in my opinion] the only one that is a must read!
4. Becoming Supernatural
This book deserves a spot on this list because I believe Dr Joe Dispenza does an excellent job in bridging the gap between science and spirituality. Becoming Supernatural goes in depth to explain the essential roles neuroscience and quantum physics play in shaping our reality. To anyone looking to improve themselves or their situation this book is invaluable. He has managed to take complex theories and concepts and written about them in a way that’s easy to understand.
5. Atomic Habits
I love this book for the practicality and usefulness of the information. James Clear did not write (Atomic Habits) to give us the answers to the universe. He wrote it to help us break bad habits and foster better ones. I believe the concepts in this book, work better if you have already done some of the inner work. In my opinion; you will then have a better idea of where you want to focus your efforts for maximum gains.
In Conclusion
I’m fairly certain there are a ton of other books that could be on this list. These are just the ones that I was fortunate enough to read. The process of understanding them might be different for everyone. But they have had a lasting impact in my life. I hope they benefit you as much as they have helped me. Good luck! -Sean Cusp
